VIRTUAL SCHOLARLY SCOOP: MERCURY IN FISH FROM WISCONSIN WATERS
Join us for a free, informative presentation on Friday, September 11, at 10 AM by Dr. John Ejnik, Associate Professor at University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Consuming fish is an important source of nutrients for people. However, mercury levels in larger predator fish has resulted in safety concerns related to fish consumption. Fish consumption is the main source of methylmercury exposure in humans. Consumption of fish contaminated with high levels of mercury is known to cause serious neurological damages to children, developing fetuses, and aging adults. As a result, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and 48 of the 50 states have issued advisories to limit or avoid the consumption of certain fish. Advanced registration required by Wednesday, September 9, at Noon by filling out and submitting this online form: bit.ly/scholarlyscoop91120
