“The Story of Hans Fykerud”
Sons of Norway Program- “The Story of Hans Fykerud” Sons of Norway-Mandt Lodge invites the public to “An evening with Vidar Skrede and Andreas Transø sharing The Story of Hans Fykerud”. The program is on Wednesday, January 10, at 7:00 PM at 317 South Page Street in Stoughton. Andreas Transø is a modern embodiment of the old seanchai (shanachie) tradition, a traveling musician and educator keeping alive traditional folk culture and history while captivating and entertaining his audiences. Transø was born and raised in the Ocooch Mountains of southwestern Driftless Region of Wisconsin. Traditional tunes and songs, along with a love for storytelling and good humor, were passed down to Andreas, and he is now bringing them to audiences both big and small. Vidar Skrede is a freelance Nordic folk musician and has a background in traditional music from Rogaland Norway. The program will feature the story of Hans Fykerud, one of the most esteemed musicians of Norway’s national instrument- the Hardanger Fiddle. Hans lived for many years in Stoughton (1890’s-1930’s) where he ran “The Fykerud Saloon” now known as the Never Mind Saloon. Please contact Darlene Arneson at arnesonfamily5@gmail.com or 608-873-7209 for more information. Mandt Lodge is handicapped accessible with a lift located on the south side of the building.
