Sons of Norway- Mandt Lodge welcomes the public to “The Norway Building Rises Again” with Vennelag Lodge President Cheryl Wille-Schlesser on Wednesday, April 11, at 7:00 PM. The lodge is located at 317 South Page Street, in Stoughton. The Norway Building which stood at Little Norway near Blue Mounds, WI, has come full circle. From the factory in Orkdal, Norway the building was sent to the 1893 World’s Exposition in Chicago. Later, it was sold and moved to Lake Geneva and was enjoyed by two owners. In 1935, the Norway Building was purchased by Isak Dahle from Philip K. Wrigley, and made its way to Wisconsin where it adorned the grounds of Little Norway for 80 years. The building’s last and final move was home to the city of its “birth” in Orkdal, Norway. Lovingly restored, a formal rededication of the building (The Thams Pavilion) was held on September 9, 2017. It serves as a cultural site and has become the pride of the entire Orkranger Municipality. It has hosted instrumentalists, vocal performances, cultural classes, weddings, baptisms, and other community events. In addition to sharing some tidbits about the festivities at Orkranger, I will speak briefly about our tour into fjord country, via the Atlantic Highway, and along the Sognefjord, ending in Bergen. For some, this was a trip of a lifetime. For others, the tour became a magical doorway into their family’s past and a further teaser for more adventures to come! There is parking on the street, public parking lot behind the Stoughton Senior Center, or in the Livsreise parking lot if their building is closed.
