An Evening about Swedish Pancakes Program Sons of Norway – Mandt Lodge welcomes you to a fun evening learning about Scandinavian foods on Wednesday, July 12, at 7 PM. The lodge is located at 317 South Page Street in Stoughton, WI. Millions of Scandinavians have settled in the United States, bringing with them their language, their music, their dance, their clothing, and, of course, their food. From aquavit to lutefisk to pancakes with pea soup, the food these immigrants brought with them can help us better understand our history and heritage. But why do we eat the things we eat? And how do those things change over time? This talk explores what the foods we eat can tell us about immigration and NordicAmerican life in the Upper Midwest. Marcus Cederström earned his B.A. from the University of Oregon in Sports Business, History, and Scandinavian Studies and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Scandinavian Studies and Folklore from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He works in the Department of German, Nordic, and Slavic+ at UW–Madison as the community curator of Nordic-American folklore for the “Sustaining Scandinavian Folk Arts in the Upper Midwest” project.
