Destination Stoughton- A Norwegian Weekend of Fun

Sunday- Our “featured” event: The Stoughton Norwegian Dancers- Norse Afternoon of Fun
Sunday, February 9th is the annual Norse Afternoon of Fun in the gymnasium of Stoughton High School, 600 Lincoln Avenue. The combination of colorful Norwegian costumes, rousing music & exuberant ethnic folk dancing will entertain and relieve the winter blues. The performance will begin at 1:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults for tickets purchased in advance or $8 at the door, children under the age of 14 are $1.
Sunday- Stoughton Norwegian Summit Group's Information Tables (Sunday- High School Hallway) - The display tables (no sales) will open at 12:30 on Sunday and will be located in the high school hallway area where the other Norse events happen.- Hardanger Classes- information about Hardanger embroidery, displays, and class information.
- Livsreise- The Norwegian Heritage Center promotional materials on exhibits and resources
- Norwegian American Genealogical Center & Naeseth Library in Madison – class and membership information
- Sons of Norway-Mandt Lodge- Sons of Norway is a fraternal organization
- Stoughton Chamber and Visitor Services- stop by to pick up Stoughton maps
And also happening that weekend in Stoughton:
Friday night- Free movie night at Mandt Lodge- 317 South Page Street- No need to sign up- just come and the movie will begin at 7 PM. Bring along some snacks to share. We’ll have coffee, juice, pop and other beverages. No charge- just an information night of watching a movie together upstairs at the lodge. That night we are showing “The Vikings”! Saturday- (note: registrations are needed!)- Lefse making class- Two options are available (9-11:00 and 12:30-2:30) and space is limited to 25 participants.
Friday and Saturday - Livsreise- (Downtown at 277 West Main St.) Open 9:30-4:30
Rocks and Hard Places: Through the Lens of Knud Knudsen"- Considered one of Norway’s most important photographers, Knudsen (1832-1915) was born in Odda, Hardanger, and he established one of the first photography businesses in Bergen in 1864. Special Winter Exhibit: Norwegian Knitting- We have gathered some examples of vintage and not so vintage hand-knit sweaters and other knit wear using many of the recognizable Norwegian knitting patterns. One display case is even dedicated to some of the newer knitwear in northern Norway made by a local company using all Norwegian yarn located in Mo I Rana, Norway.

Friday only- Historic Depot and Museum Open 9am-4:30pm, 532 E. Main Street. A self-guided museum is in the building, with original Mandt wagons and other Stoughton historical items on display.
Friday and Saturday-Nordic Nook (Downtown at 176 West Main St.) - www.nordic-nook.com
Nordic Nook features a wide variety of fine Scandinavian gifts, apparel, and other assorted products from the Nordic countries. They are open Monday through Saturday from 10:00am to 5:00pm.
Saturday- Stoughton Opera House- (381 E. Main Street) February 8, 2020, 7:30pm
Winner of the 2015 MAMA award for best cover band, Steely Dane is dedicated to not only faithfully reproducing Steely Dan and Donald Fagen songbook, but to bringing an energetic live-show experience to the crowd.
