Destination Stoughton- A Norwegian Weekend of Fun February 9-11, 2018 Updated: January 25, 2018 Our “featured” event: The Stoughton Norwegian Dancers- Norse Afternoon of Fun On Sunday February 11th, 2018, the internationally known Stoughton Norwegian Dancers will present their annual “Norse Afternoon of Fun”. The performance will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Stoughton High School gymnasium located at 600 Lincoln Avenue, Stoughton WI. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. This annual event is the Norwegian’s answer to “cabin fever”. The combination of colorful Norwegian costumes, rousing music and exuberant ethnic folk dancing produces the necessary elements to relieve the “winter blues”. Audience members are encouraged to wear their national costumes to truly make this an international event. Children under the age of 10 who are dressed in their national or Norwegian costume will receive free admission. The lively group of dancers will present a program that includes humorous, gymnastic and audience participation dances that are appealing to all ages. Bring your children and grandparents to make it a family event. Admission is $5.00 for adults for tickets purchase in advance or $8.00 at the door, Children who are under the age of 14 are $1.00. A bake sale featuring authentic pastries and baked goods will be available for purchase, including Lefse prepared by the Stoughton Norwegian Dancer parents! There will also be a raffle drawing that includes 30 great prizes!! And also happening that weekend in Stoughton: Stoughton Norwegian Summit Group's Information Tables (Sunday- High School Hallway) The display tables (no sales) will open at 12:30 on Sunday and will be located in the high school hallway area where the other Norse events happen. The groups, businesses and organizations involved in the Stoughton Norwegian Summit group will have information, activities and resources for you to learn more about Norwegian heritage and culture. Pick up information at the two display tables from Sons of Norway- Mandt Lodge, Livsreise, Hardanger classes, and others involved in the Stoughton Norwegian Summit Group. Livsreise- (Downtown at 277 West Main St.) Livsreise, the Norwegian Heritage Center, includes interpretations of the immigrant journey from Norway, and features the cultural heritage brought to Stoughton along with sharing stories of individual immigrants. Featured now in our small gallery is a quilt exhibit, on loan from the Vesterheim Norwegian- American Museum and Heritage Center in Decorah, Iowa, titled” “Pieces of Self- Identity and Norwegian American Quilts.” Additionally, Livsreise is home to a genealogy center that operates in cooperation with Norwegian American Genealogical Center/Naeseth Library. Livsreise is open Friday 9:30-4:30, Saturday 9:30-4:30, Admission is free. Nordic Nook (Downtown at 176 West Main St.) - www.nordic-nook.com Friday - Nordic Nook is having its semi-annual clearance sale! 30-50% off many items. New sale sweaters too! Open 10am - 5pm. On Saturday, Semi Annual Clearance Sale continues 10am - 5pm. Stoughton Opera House- (381 E. Main Street) Steely Dane on Saturday, February 10 at 7:30pm. Tickets $25, call the box office (608 877 4400) or order online at stoughtonoperahouse.com. Winner of the 2015 MAMA award for best cover band, Steely Dane is dedicated to not only faithfully reproducing the Steely Dan and Donald Fagen songbook, but to bringing an energetic live-show experience to the crowd. Shows consist of hits and deep cuts-- sometimes even complete albums-- and are sure to have you out of your seats singing along. www.steelydane.com Stoughton Lions Beer Tasting (BBG’s 800 Nygaard St)- Saturday, February 10- 6th annual event with a variety of beers available along with wine (alternative to beer tasting), snacks and raffles. 3:00-6:00 PM. Tickets are $40 at the door or a discount if bought in advance from Lions Club members.
