Alt for Norge: Occupation and Resistance, 1940-1945
Sons of Norway- Mandt Lodge will have “Alt for Norge: Occupation and Resistance, 1940-1945” with Jan Magne Hansen at their Wednesay, May 8, program at 7:00 PM. The lodge is located at 317 South Page Street, in Stoughton. “Alt for Norge: Occupation and Resistance, 1940-1945” is a result of an educational tour led by the Hansens in 2017, and sponsored by the Tucson branch of Norwegians World Wide. Following the route of King Haakon’s flight as he escaped, the tour focused on the German occupation during World War II, the civil resistance of the Norwegian people during the occupation, and the impact of Norway’s peace and prosperity seventy years later. Included in the power point program are scenes from the historic sites of the occupation and Jan’s personal recollections of growing up under the dark cloud of the Nazi era. Jan Magne Hansen, a native of Ålesund, Norway, emigrated to the United States in 1950, and brought with him memories of watching Nazi troops marching through the cobblestone streets of his neighborhood on the west coast of Norway. Please contact Darlene Arneson at arnesonfamily5@gmail.com or 608-873-7209 for more information. Mandt Lodge is handicapped accessible with a lift located on the south side of the building. There is parking on the street, public parking lot behind the Stoughton Senior Center, or in the Livsreise parking lot if their building is closed. We always encourage you to bring donations for the Stoughton Food Pantry! The public is always welcome at Mandt Lodge!
