Livsreise is excited to have Arna Rennan as our featured speaker in September -especially since she will be sharing highlights of her summer in Scandinavia! In her presentation Arna will be presenting comparisons between folk traditions in the Midwest and current trends in the Scandinavian Countries Arna Rennan hosts the program “Nordic Roots Music” at KTWH Two Harbors, MN Community Radio. She recently returned from attending three folk music festivals; the first was Landskappleik in Trysil, Norway. The second was Folkemusikvekan ved Siljan in Dalarna Sweden and the third was Folk Festival in Kaustinen, Finland. This trip to research folk music was supported by a grant from the American Scandinavian Foundation. She returns with fresh impressions and greater insight into the commonalities and differences between the countries as well as how it relates to Scandinavian folk music in the Midwest. Arna is a performer of traditional Norwegian folk music, having received training at the Institute of Folk Culture in Rauland, Telemark. She performs extensively throughout the Midwest and has recorded four CD’s. The most recent ones are “Rescued Treasures” of Ballads from the Middle Ages and “Treasures Left Behind” stev and dance tunes from Telemark. Arna is also a visual artist and studied at the National Academy of Art in Oslo Norway. She is currently working on an series of paintings entitled “Immigration – Integration” that has been shared at the Vesterheim Museum and Norway House in Minneapolis. **please arrive early, seating is limited**
