EMO PHILIPS
7:30-9:30pm
Comedy legend Emo Philips has been entertaining audiences and influencing other comics for a generation with his blend of misdirection and odd-but-clever punchlines. Jay Leno called him “the best joke writer in America,” and "Weird Al" Yankovic describes him as one of the funniest people on the planet. His wandering, child-like delivery belies a razor sharp wit and an uncanny knack for timing. His career has seen award-winning comedy albums, several cable specials, and many appearances on US and UK network television. He has appeared in films, lent his distinctive voice to animated TV shows, and appeared recently on the Comedy Central series “Review” with Andy Daly. But his true love is his first love—stand-up—and he will leave you standing too, cheering for more.

DEL MCCOURY BAND (THE 2ND STRINGS SUPPORTS)
7:30-9:30pm
Bluegrass legend Del McCoury has expressed an authoritative and unrelenting authenticity in music for 50 years. In addition to wowing hardcore bluegrass fans with his particular blend of traditional vocals and top-flight musicianship, McCoury and his band wins new listeners by peppering solid bluegrass sound with hints of country, gospel, and jazz. With over 30 IBMA awards and multiple Grammys, including being inducted into the International Bluegrass Hall Of Fame, they're the most honored group in bluegrass history. Fans fill venues from Carnegie Hall and Kennedy Center to New Orleans' Preservation Hall and the Grand Ole Opry to watch Del and the boys play with sheer joy that shines through in every performance.

The 2nd Strings started as nothing more than a group of friends spending Sunday afternoons together. All sharing a love for traditional bluegrass, they started to learn to pick. Amazed at how spending the entire day on one tune could be so much fun, they continued to play and expand on a repertoire of bluegrass standards as well as traditional songs. The Sunday afternoon sessions soon turned from entertaining themselves to entertaining others. After many moving parts, the original quintet is together playing Bluegrass as best as a couple 2nd Strings can do.

OPERA FOR THE YOUNG: THE ELIXIR OF LOVE
1:30-3pm
Opera for the Young brings live, professional opera to elementary school audiences. Each year, OFTY reaches over 75,000 elementary school children throughout the Midwest to ignite an enthusiasm for opera. All productions are fully staged, sung in English and adapted especially for kids. Opera for the Young’s adaptation of Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love moves the action to Lonesome Gulch, a town in the American Old West. Miss Addy, Jimmy Reno, and Bill Corey form the love triangle of the story, with Dr. Dulcamara appearing as the "snake oil" peddler who sells the love potion. Students from Kegonsa Elementary will perform on stage as the Justice of the Peace and the Soldier as well as the "Citizens of Lonesome Gulch." Playful melodies and comical characters delight youngsters, while themes of bullying and substance abuse, as well as the age old wisdom of “being true to yourself,” generate thoughtful discussion.
Tickets: $5 at the door

7:00 PM
Sons of Norway Mandt Lodge welcomes Peggy Hager on Wednesday, April 12, at 7 PM for a program on “Norwegian Explorer Roald Amundsen”. The lodge is located at 317 South Page Street in Stoughton. ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL
7:30-9:30pm
Since the early '70s, Asleep at the Wheel has kept the sound of Western swing alive. In reviving the freewheeling, eclectic sensibility of Western swing godfather Bob Wills, the Grammy-winning Wheel has earned enthusiastic critical praise throughout its lengthy career; not only has it preserved classic sounds that had all but disappeared from country music, but it has been able to update the music, keeping it a living, breathing art form. Typically featuring eight to 11 musicians, the group has gone through myriad changes (at last count, over 80 members had passed through the ranks), but frontman Ray Benson has held it together for four decades, keeping Asleep at the Wheel a viable recording and touring concern and maintaining its devotion to classic-style Western swing.

THE COFFIN SHIPS: DEATH ON THE OCEAN CROSSING AND ONE FAMILY'S STORY
2pm
Presented By Glenn Borreson< br /> Imagine yourself a child boarding a ship in Norway with your family, only to arrive weeks later in an American port city without your mother: she died on the ocean crossing and was buried at sea. What does that mean for you and your family? Will you have a home again? Can America still be "the golden land of opportunity?" CAITLIN CANTY
7:30-9:30pm
Caitlin Canty delivers her songs with a dusky alto and a 1930’s Recording King guitar. Her breakout record Reckless Skyline features songs that veer nimbly between country ballads and straight-up rockers, dark blues and sparsely arranged folk. Produced by Jeffrey Foucault, Reckless Skyline garnered glowing praise from NPR, and The San Francisco Chronicle lauded Canty’s, “casually devastating voice and unshakable poise,” and her “easy way with folk, blues and country motifs.” Canty won the 2015 Telluride Troubadour songwriting contest, and she writes and performs with several bands including Down Like Silver, her duo with Peter Bradley Adams. Both on the road and on her records, Canty creates a sound that harnesses the grit and spark at the very heart of American music, tempered with a voice both haunting and distinct.

ADULT BOOK DISCUSSION
6:30 pm
"Did You Ever Have A Family" by Bill Clegg On the eve of her daughter's wedding, June Reid's life is completely devastated when a shocking disaster takes the lives of her daughter, her daughter's fiancé, her ex-husband, and her boyfriend, Luke--her entire family, all gone in a moment. And June is the only survivor. Alone and directionless, June drives across the country, away from her small Connecticut town. In her wake, a community emerges, weaving a beautiful and surprising web of connections through shared heartbreak. From the couple running a motel on the Pacific Ocean where June eventually settles into a quiet half-life, to the wedding's caterer whose bill has been forgotten, to Luke's mother, the shattered outcast of the town--everyone touched by the tragedy is changed as truths about their near and far histories finally come to light.

HAL KETCHUM
7:30-9:30pm
Five years ago, Hal Ketchum packed up his guitars and left Nashville, turning his back on a successful, 20+ year career in country music. He'd already sold more than 5 million albums, racking up a half-dozen Top 10 hits along the way. But Ketchum was exhausted. Try as he might, though, he couldn't stop his musical wheels from spinning. As he sat on the porch of his home, new songs began appearing. The process felt entirely different from his final years in Nashville, when songwriting had been a job. This time around, songwriting was something more. It was personal. It was casual. And Ketchum decided he wasn't ready to give up music, after all. Those new songs became the foundation of I'm the Troubadour. Recorded in a series of single takes, the album is the sound of an artist finding redemption in the strum of an acoustic guitar, the boom of a kick drum, and the trill of an upright piano. It's an album inspired by years of struggle, performed by a songwriting legend who's glad to finally get his groove back.

“BUILT BY NORWEGIAN ENTERPRISE”: STORIES OF NORWEGIAN SHIPBUILDERS IN WISCONSIN
1pm
Caitlin Clyne is the Registrar/Collections Manager of the Wisconsin Maritime Museum, where she has managed the archives and artifact collections since 2011. Caitlin is also the co-editor of The Anchor, the museum’s quarterly maritime history magazine. Originally from Detroit, she has a degree in Anthropology and a graduate certificate in Archival Administration. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Association for Great Lakes Maritime History and as a Grand Officer of the International Shipmasters’ Association.

In early years the Norwegians in Wisconsin engaged quite extensively in shipbuilding on the Great Lakes, as the demand for lake vessels afforded an opportunity for lucrative employment in that field. For example, one of these was Andrew A Johnson, a young Norwegian immigrant who settled in Green Bay. In 1876 he established a business of his own which grew until he had his own shipyard, where he employed upwards of thirty men constantly. He built boats and vessels of all kinds of large lake steamers, tug-boats, schooners and motor boats.

APRIL VERCH BAND
7:30-9:30pm
Moving from exuberant stepdancer to fiddle wunderkind and silver-voiced singer, Verch has never been content to stand still. Her victories in Canada’s Open Old Time Fiddle Championship and Grand Masters Fiddling Competition made her the first woman to take both of the country’s top contests. On her tenth album The Newpart, Verch digs deep into songs and tunes from the era before the often-mined mid-century heyday of bluegrass and folk. Harkening back to vaudeville and beyond, Verch and her fellow trio members pare down their arrangements, highlighting the simple pleasures of upright bass, guitar, clawhammer banjo, mandolin, voices, fiddle, and stepping in intimate conversation. At the heart lie Verch’s delicate soprano, energetic footwork, and stunning playing, a trifecta of talents she brings together simultaneously for the first time on stage. With ten albums and years of touring under her belt, Verch has moved from upstart prodigy to mature and reflective songwriter, interpreter, and storyteller.
